Hi guys.

I have a minor problem with my 750 1996 Trident. When it has been left un-started for a week or 2 it takes around 10 prolonged pushes of the starter to get her going. The problem feels like fuel starvation resulting possibly from fuel evaporation in the carbs. I have heard of other Tridents starting on the button with little or no problem

The bike splutters a number of times each time getting closer to picking up before it finally jumps into life. I am pretty certain fuel starvation is the cause so any ideas to minimize it? Cheers and a pint of Guinness for the first correct answer. :-g

Two suggestions spring to what is left of my mind. A fuel stabilizer may help keep the float bowls from drying so quickly, and turning the fuel tap to the prime position for a couple of minutes prior to starting should refill any needed fuel in the bowls.

Les; I have the same problem sometimes when I haven't run mine for a week or so. Make sure your battery has a good charge. If these engines don't turn over quickly enough, they can be very hard to fire-up. Try charging the battery for an hour or so just prior to your ride, or see how many cold cranking amps your battery is capable of. Maybe you need a new one. Also remember that trying to start your engine with a low battery is very hard on your starter and its sprag-clutch and you don't want them failing.

Thanks RG, still getting physio for the injury. pendraig,
My battery is new, 2 months old, and spins the engine fine. Priming does help a little buy I still have to hit the started quite a few times. The engine splutters just as if its fuel starvation, fires into life , kinda a few times before eventually picking up. Then we are away no probs.
