Classic Bike: Future "classics" - T3 Speed Triple

I confess I am a Classic Bike reader and subscriber in fact. In the latest edition (January 2011), they have an article listing what they consider to be possible future 'Brough' level classics.

In with the Ducati 916, BMW K1, RD350 YPVS, Yam GTS1000 and early GSXR750, is our very own T3 Speed Triple, amongst others.

Without wishing to infringe their copyright (go and buy a copy), positive points include attitude, performance, quality, relative rarity and the old race series. They insist on black not yellow though (no mention of the fastest colour, Fireball orange).

Just a short piece, and their guide prices (UK) seem a little high to me, but recognition at least for a really infectious bike that I can't see parting with (not just because I have too much into it).

My own (other) favourite from their list is the TL1000S. I hired one years ago and had a pretty mental weekend in the Black Forest in Germany armed with just a credit card and a toothbrush. It's the sort of trip I would happily do again with my Speed Triple.

One bike I think they miss is the KR-1 (or KR-1S). I would love to find and nurture a mint one (I had one new in 89). Alas they are not sold or legal here.

The Speedie

The essence of bike for me is a certain degree of practicality (can carry pillion), rock solid handling, long fuel range, comfy, spirited but grunty too, able to be worked on at home, parts available etc etc etc. And normally I shun fashion before function, but with bikes, above all, it has to have the look. The look is big, intimidating and says "don't mess with me". (But it cannot be an HD). Lastly, you have to be able to ride it with an open-face without looking like a knob.

A Speedie ticks all my boxes. It even gets unexpected enquiries from pretty girls - bonus.

No wonder it's due to become a classic.
