You're dead right Wanny, the Trident headlight was p**s poor. I worked in a car parts shop at the time I found this out about mine. To cure it I used a "super" bulb made by Osram, this uses a different gas in the bulb which will give you better light without increasing the wattage. You need to avoid increasing the wattage because this will increase the heat given off by the bulb, this in turn will burn the reflector making it go a milky colour which will reduce the light emitted by the headlight. The other thing I did was replace the reflector/lens assembly it's self. I replaced it with a generic 7 3/4 inch headlight unit from a car. This unit had a different beam pattern, concentrating the light rather than dispersing it which is what the original Hella unit seemed to do. Both these modes resulted in and excellent headlamp.
