So, my brake light has been intermittent at best since I got the bike. Don't care that much about the rear, but the front seems pretty important... The switch checks good with the multimeter, I get tone with the meter set to "Cont". 11.35V at the wires. Still, it only works sometimes. Grrr...

Well, I did a bit of research. Seems the 'dent shares brake levers with the Kawasaki ZX-11 & several other Ninjas, so it stands to reason that they might share switches as well. Looked up the part number for the '01 Ninja 1100 switch on the Kawi web site & plugged the number into the parts finder over at Bike Bandit & Ron Ayers. $21 plus shipping from BB, $16 plus from Ron Ayers.

Then I balked at $8 shipping on a 1-ounce part, plus I was impatient. So I went to my "local" Kawi dealer today, since the parts department wasn't picking up the phone. (There is no local Triumph dealer.) Got there at closing time, whereupon I was informed that parts had closed an hour earlier. Fortunately, someone asked what I needed. I said "brake light switch for an 1100 Ninja." "What year?" was the reply. I said "2001, but the switch fits a lot of bikes & a lot of years." At that point, 1 of the younger employees went to look. I offered the part number, & he told me I had made his day by knowing it. 27010-0025. Not in stock. *****! But I figured as long as I was there, I might as well ask about the older part superceded by 27010-0025. "What about 27010-1170?" I asked... Bingo! $24 with tax, but I got it today!

30 seconds with my Leatherman & I had it on the bike. It works!

-Kit, feeling much safer now.
