I'm ready to change my front brake pads, and have bought a set of Ferodos on eBay. I've always used EBCs in the past.
A friend of mine sent me the following info which he lifted from somewhere.

Some info for you.

Please ignore all of the algebra if you will, and check out the part about the rotors' surfaces being coated with brake. compound. Does anybody have any experience or ideas about the effects of changing pad types?

I think I've used most types of pads, except maybe full race compound. I just clean everything, including the rotors, with brake cleaner and have had no problems.

The soft organic pads, that don't wear the rotors, don't last very long, but the bike stops O.K. Metal sintered pads last longer, but over the long term they wear the rotors, and the bike stops O.K.

I recently replaced my pads with EBC's sintered. I think the full set cost about 4 bucks more than EBC's standard pads ($1 for each front and $2 for the rear).
The brakes feel like they have more grab with the sintered pads (or maybe its the extra 4 bucks I paid making me think I'm getting something extra for my money), but I really don't think it's my imagination.

The pads are easy to replace. I suggest you loosen the allen head bolts holding the pads before you remove the calipers. It's easier to get the leverage you need with the calipers mounted. (I always remember this after I've removed the calipers-repeated senior moments)
