Troubleshooting a Dead Tachometer

I'm trying to determine whether the problem is the tach or the harness(the bike is running great, so I don't believe the coil is the culprit. I have a digital VOM and I was thinking that I'd hook it up to the tach harness and see if a good signal was getting to the tach. The only thing is, what type of voltage signal should I be looking for once the DVOM is hooked up? Any help would be much appreciated!

I think it should be a pulse type signal. (Looks like it's derived straight from a coil primary.) If you have it, you could try a Frequency range. Otherwise, I'd suggest an AC volts range, keeping to a high measurement range as tho' the net AC may be small, a high peak may be present from the inductance of the coil in the circuit. On the volts range I wouldn't expect much change over the rev range, but it should give you an idea that some 'feed' is present.
