So why am I falling in love with....

why am i falling in love with the Thunderbird sport?

they seem to go for lots of money compared to other 900 carb-fed Hinckley produce, but they do seem to be a bit special.

What do they do different to a std Thunderbird? a mate has a std Thunderbird and it just feels very heavy and not very powerful - so different from my Sprint.

But the Thunderbird Sport..........(* sigh *) - I found this in youtube - that noise makes a small damp patch appear....well never mind - just listen to that!!! and just look at it - it's lurvely

I do love the look of those 3-into-3 pipes, but I think there are other setups that sound better. As far as the differences between the T-Bird and the TBS, I believe the TBS has awful twin-pot calipers on *both* sides of the wheel as well as an upgrade to the "green" cams like a Trident or a Sprint. It may even have the 9500 RPM redline of the sportier bikes as well. The TBS is pretty, but your Sprint is more bike.

Cheers,
-Kit

The TBS has the same cams & jetting as the stock Tbird & Legend. A cross over pipe on the exhaust & a few more revs is all that ups the power over a stock Tbird. Getting more air thru' the airbox is the easy/cheap way to more power, as this has much more restrictive input area compared to Sport/Touring T3s. Sprint ('98'hp) cams are a bolt in mod also. Rev limiter is set to 8750 but a Trident/Sprint/Speed Triple igniter or Ignitech programmable unit they can (& will easily with 'breathing' mods) safely rev higher.

The big difference with the TBS is 17" wheels, much better adjustable rear shock & fully adjustable cartridge forks - same as your Sprint Sport. Plus the twin discs, with similar 'adequate' two piston calipers. 6 speed box was always standard on the TBS.

Real world, there's not a huge difference between the TBS (with a few easy breathing mods) & a T3 speed triple imho. Probably why, together with the classic looks they are getting very sought after.

So how can I make my Sprint sound like that T-bird?

I don't suppose that 3 into 3 system will bolt on to my bike!

My bad! I could've sworn the TBS got the green cams, but I was wrong and Mike is right.

I'm fairly certain it won't bolt right up, but it might not take a whole lot to make it fit...

The headers should bolt up to the head ok, as the T3 pipes can be fitted to the classic triples. Water pipe should be well clear with all headers going to the right hand side. Engine cases are pretty much the same so should fit ok round/under the side. Won't fit with a centre stand tho' by the look of it - if fitted, could be removed. That just leaves the three 'silencers' - not that there's any silencing going on from what I've read . Likely all that's needed is a custom bracket to mount up to the rear footrest hanger.
