Lands end to John O'Groats(1000miles)in one day
Just out of interest. What is the biggest milage that you've all done in one day? I've done 550 miles (Aberdeen Scotland to Bury St Edmonds England) in a day several times (on different days of course) and if the weather's ok it's great fun. I tend to go a little mental after 9 or 10 hrs but it's all good and it got me thinking. Lands End to John O'Groats is 1000 miles and is the entire lenght of the UK. I think that it can be done in 20 hrs and at some point I'll be doing a little more planning. Would anyone be interested in joining met? I don't know from which end I'd start but I think the Scottish part would be harder and that therefore it would be best done first. Nothing to do with me living in Scotland.
And i'm not entirely sure in which section of the forum this should ideally be. I'm hoping that it's comfortable here.

My bum is numb....
The most I put on my Triple is about 350 miles in one day. That was last summer here in my home State riding around with friends with no particular place to go.
If I'm riding my wife's bike, even when I have somewhere to go, like with your Scotland to England run, I never put more than than 500 miles on in a day. I like to stop and look at things. I try not to plan trips where I have to cover a given mileage in a given time. Does your run include stopping or is it straight thru?
The one time I did try to make it to North Carolina from Michigan, I rode from sun up at 6:00am to about 8:00pm with only quick stops for fuel and food. About 800 miles, mostly all express way. It wasn't enjoyable at all, and I really didn't want to do much riding the next day.

Sounds good, i read in a classic bike a few years ago about an Enfield bullet cafe racer 500 (but out to 620cc) that done it in about 23 hours & it didn't blow up !! so a modern bike should be a bit quicker but they did use a relay of riders (must be the cafe racer seat !)

My two longest days on the triple; both about 700 miles.

When I rode the Tail of the Dragon last year, I overnighted in Chattanooga, Tennessee and then returned to Tampa, Florida the next day. That is about 660 miles (1,065 km). But I did that on my Kawasaki Concours 14 (called GTR 1400 outside of N. America) which has a Corbin seat. Really no big deal. Would not try that on my Daytona 1200 as my back would go "ouch".

I did Richmond, VA, to New Orleans, LA, in about 18 hours, including getting lost enough to make it about 1,065 miles instead of 1,005.
Did about 1,015 miles from Austin, TX, to Knoxville, TN in about the same time a week or so later.
This was all on my '04 RS with the stock seat.
Cheers,
-Kit

In 2001, I rode 1,130 miles in one day on my Daytona doing an Iron Butt Saddlesore 1000. Rode from Atlanta to New Orleans and back.

Impressive
That's some pretty impressive milage folks. I'm not overly worried about missing any scenery, I just want to so it because i'm thinkin that i'll probably not always be foolish enough to wand to attempt that kind of milage in one day and i like a bit of a challenge or I'm masochist.

I did this back in the 70s on my T100R Daytona - I did roughly 800 miles in 36hrs, which included getting to my start control & back home from the finish. A lot of fun.

It used to be up to 600miles, tho' as now, you can start wherever you like & choose how many miles you do to get to the finish location.
Maybe give you an interesting goal & navigation challenge, & possibly raise sponsorship for a charity?

My longest was about 850 miles from Old Faithful Yellowstone back to Lincoln, NE. I finished the ride in rain after dark, and was glad that it was over. I'll do an Iron Butt some day but I'll need a better saddle first.
