Question trophy 1200 in daytona frame

so ive been trying to find a used 1200 daytona engine on ebay and here and there but ive been having much more luck finding trophy 1200 engines everywhere...not a single daytona engine yet.. i know many people swap out there trophy engines for daytona engines without much problem but can it be done the other way? would the igniter box of the daytona work with the trophy engine?..also, if i put my daytonas cams and the pistons and liners in the trophy engine would this bring it closer to being a daytona? thanks guys

I'm pretty sure they used the same liners, and Bike Bandit agrees. I think the cams and pistons were the only internal difference, and if you swap those over, the Daytona igniter will be the one you want.

Your igniter would work with a straight Trophy motor, but I think the Daytona has a higher rev limit so you'd want to be real careful getting over onto the right side of the tach. Not sure how or if the advance is different between the two...

Cheers, HTH,
-Kit

Same rev limit, but the Trophy has a tad more advance, probably because it has lower compression so is less likely to detonate.

Question Trophy engine in D12

Im in the same sit as you. My 96 D12 is smoking at startup and im looking for a better D12 engine. I bought a low milage trophy engine, but havent put it in. Ive read the heads, pistons, cams, carb jetting, ignition advance are different. I want to know if it is safe and
workable to put the D12 cams in a Late Trophy 1200 motor?
