i know that handlebar ergos have been covered before, but i'd like to approach the issues from a different perspective.

i've got a 1995 sprint with standard-issue bars/triple clamps and i'd like some advice on how to move them LOWER and CLOSER to me. most people, of course, want to move them higher. but i've already got a touring bike. i want to make the ergos slightly sportier (but with the bars slightly closer).

i was checking out a 2005 sprint at the dealer the other day, and it appears to have the same sort of bar-mounting arrangement as my sprint, but with the handlebar lower and closer (precisely where i want it). will these bar mounts fit?

any ideas welcome and appreciated.

i would also love to hear whether my bars are the same as the "sprint sport," which i believe was built in '98.

cheers.

My next project for my Sprint is to mount a top clamp on it, like you see on a lot of the Speed Triples, that will accept a regular style handlebar. My hooligan side says to put a set of Renthal aluminum low motocross bars on it.

What about the early Speed Triple bars? Would they be lower?

Hi Sprintster,

I have some knowledge about T300 bits. I cannot help with the T500 queries though.

My '96 Sprint came with the "Sport" bars - apparently it was pot luck which bars were fitted by Triumph at that time, according to my dealer. They are great for summer blasts/rides.

For the winter trim I got hold of a pair of Sprint "standard"/Trident bars (and a higher screen). I did not have to alter clutch/brake lines or choke/throttle cables - so the change is a 15 minute job.

I also have (in a box somewhere) a pair of UK spec Speed Triple bars - they are clip-on type (unlike the US model with its different yoke and handlebar risers) and I think you can see these just in the Photo Albums section UK Speed Triple . I have this idea about trying my Sprint naked sometime - I believe the fairing would be a problem for these bars though.

If you do go for the "Sport" bars, make sure you get the bar-ends/weights as well. I have all the part numbers somewhere, but far cheaper if you can pick them up from Ebay. If you would like more information, send me a PM - it may take a little time to dig the things out, but I should be able to help.

The other thing that you may be interested in, to help your riding position/style, are the positions of the footrests across the T300 range. By changing the brake push-rod and gear linkage (e.g. Daytona/Speed Triple), you can move the footrests to the other mounting holes on the 'control plates'.

Hope this helps? Sorry, no knowledge about the T500s.

Ciao, Geoff
