Clutch Safety Switch?

Soooo for my few years of experience compared to most of you, one thing I seemed to do right in my opinion was pull in the clutch even in neutral to start a bike. I guess I've only driven M/T vehicles so it's a habbit. Bad thing is after a beautiful 100+ mile ride yesterday afternoon, I went to start her up to head to the gas station. Didn't want to start, not even a cough or fart. The battery had more than 12 volts on it so I thought well I guess something's up with the starter. I just now tried again and without pulling in the clutch, she started fine. I think if I remember right I had a problem like this with an old CBR1000 of mine and it was a clutch safety switch. Are these even on a 93' D1200?
