tight

recently aquired a 94 speed triple 25000 miles .it has been not been used for 4 years but supposedly started up every so often .
It,s not in to bad condition sticky brakes "fork seals stuck rebound damping adjusters .it started and ran the engine sounds good if a little lumpy not supprising as the petrol was proberly a little stale and the carbs could do with a clean and as it turns out the air filter is clogged to.
while i got the bike semi-stripped i thought i would do the valve clearances all of them are tight and two of the inlet valves
are as far as i can see has no clearance all of the cam lobes look in very good nick apart from one of the two tight inlets and there is a slight mark on the under side of lobe .has anyone had the same while doing their valves?? and to any ill effects?
i don,t think it has caused any harm but i allways think the worse and hope for the best.
all the best
john

Thats probally part of the cause of the rough running. I would go ahead and adjust them and you should be fine if nothing is galled bad. There is alot of threads on here about the details of doing it

Just be sure to double-check the 2 with zero clearance after and don't rev the motor much until you take care of it and I bet you'll be fine.

Cheers,

John, Long story short, if the shim isn't in 360 degree contact with the cam all should be okay after setting clearances. The '02 had a few we couldn't even measure, but there was still a crack of light showing a bit of clearance (backlit with a shop lamp). That was about 8K miles ago.
