HT coils
Hello folks. Haven't been on here in a while... Problems When i start the bike it's fine. Then when she warms up clearly i am running on two cyclinders. I've changed the plugs, to no avail. So now my question is would it be the coils. Also would the coils from th750 trident work with my 885 sprint??
Much appreciate feedback.

Hi Marx,
The 750 & 900cc models use the same coils. Depending upon the age the manufacture did change from PVL to Gill, but you can mix them as they are the same spec.
An old post which has some details of my (similar) experience and a picture of the fault I found, if you care to read: http://www.triumphrat.net/hinckley-c...the-02-tb.html.

The classic symptoms of a coil failure are erratic running from idle to 3k rpm or so & then clean at higher rpm. Complete sudden cut-out after warming up often points to the Ignitor pick-up sensor.

When you say "cut out" are you referring one cyclinder cutting out or the engine? As i said the bike still runs but on two cyclinders ??

All cylinders cutting out, in the case of the pick-up. Doesn't really sound like top of the list, but thought I'd mention it in case you were considering it. How does it run a various rpms, high/low ?
First things to check tho' are the basics, electrical/coil connections (can become loose/dirty etc) Plugs/plug leads (Swap around if suspected?) Also carb issues, blocked jets, leaky hoses etc. are all possible issues.
If you've definitely identified one cyl at fault (exhaust temp?) could try swapping coils/leads etc. - see if the fault follows or stays.

Excellent advice... I've drained the carbs, changed the plugs. I bought a coil of e-bay there should arrive in a day or two. However i will now go and check the leads connectors etc as you suggest to be sure. I hope it's the coils, it will be so much less hastle...
