Exhaust refurb

Gentlemen,

I tried to refurb the exhaust (down pipes) myself with Halfords exhaust paint....what a momentous waste of time and money that was !!

So my question is can you put me in touch with a firm that can do this for me ? I live in the Midlands (B75 5~) in Sutton Coldfield but travel all over the country so recommendations much appreciated.

many thanks

Simon

This lot will do it http://www.camcoat.u-net.com/

Or get them blasted at any powder coaters or work shop then paint with BBQ paint ....check the can so it is at least 650 degrees C resistant ;-)

I've not had mine done yet but I found these guys in Scotland...

http://www.exhaust-coatings.co.uk/page5.htm

I think they quoted me about £160 for the 3-2 inc link pipes and return postage. They also do a semi gloss finish.

Hi i know how you feel simlog i brought some halfords exhaust paint to do the exhaust on my dirt bike & the colour was horrible & quickly sprayed over it with some PJ1 Flat Black exhaust spray paint(1500f) which is a far better colour & seems pretty tough as well . As i'm about to do a winter refurb of the speed triple i'm wondering whether to spray the pipes with this PJ1 or to get the job done properly so it looks close to the original finish ? keep us up to date on progress

There are stainless steel right?

Why paint them?

Just keep cleaning them?

Just thought that might be what I do after I blast them ??

If grit blasted the finish will be rough, so I guess it depends what needs to be done blasting-wise to get the coating shifted.
You can strip them as I did, pics on here, but the finish looks like raw unplated mild steel, not that pretty. Could polish them up I s'pose though, should look smart.

err...

I am a tad of an expert on blasting having been around the technology and its developments since the 90's.

Grit blasting is your problem. It is far too destructive.

The solution is a process called vapour blasting.

I have little doubt that the exhausts headers would look amazing if they were vapour blasted. And because the process seals the service in a what can only be described as a polishing effect, the process gives very long lasting results.

The headers we have cant actually rust, as they are stainless, obviously there will be some damage of some kind, but it shouldn't detract from the appearance that much, especially for faired bike owners.. I think...

Err... it's only a problem if you want shiney headers. If you want to paint them it's a good thing.

Interesting though, only heard of vapour for alloy so far.
