forks

I have just aquired a 94 speed triple to keep my 97 sprint company
it has been laid up for the last 4 years it has only done 25000 miiles it sounds a bit lumpy but nothing a carb clean and full service won"t
cure - i hope.
the fork seals have gone but the stantions are ok . The
adjusters at the bottom of the fork legs have seized solid they are only a screw head and apear to be made of brass type metal
has anyone overcome the same problem? and how?

Alright John.....I've come across this problem twice, first time was on my Speed Triple I bought an assortment of very large screw drivers and tried to get them free....no joy, couldn't get enough pressure behind the driver as the fork leg has some flex in it !!

Cured that one by sending my forks off to Ktec and they replaced the compression adjusters with some of their own which have a greater degree of adjustment and look good too !

Second time was on my Sprint Sport..the fork seals needed replacing so long story short when the legs were out I put a big screw driver in a vice put the fork leg onto it, got my weight over it and used the length of the fork leg to lever the adjuster free....not too pretty as the rubber seal behind the adjuster chewed up but it did free the adjuster...so sort of a success..

So...chances are you won't free them up on the bike, you might when the forks are off, or if you have a couple of hundred you could have new seals/springs, revalve, new compression adjusters fresh oil and tailored air gap to suit you and your riding from Ktec ???

Cheers
Mot

I'd try a penetrating lube on the adjusters first. Can't hurt, right? Maybe an impact driver, with the front wheel up against a good solid wall and a bit that's a very good fit?

Cheers,
-Kit

I will take the forks out and soak the adjusters with a penertrating oil but i will probably have to go along "mots" suggestoin
and send them away to have adjuster up grade.
