Alternator trouble

I know this is a common problem with the early 90's Triumphs as i have just found out.
A couple of days ago i just could not stand the noise coming from the left side of the motor so i took the alternator off. [ 95 Daytona 900]
The bolt head had broken off but worst was the shaft that runs to the clutch was loose.
So off with the clutch cover & sure enough the bolt head had snapped off aswell.
So i rang my Triumph Dealer [i'm in Australia btw] & ordered the modified through bolt kit.Its has to come from Triumph Uk & it will take 4-6 weeks to get here.
Even with all that damage it still ran well once off idle, guess i'll now have plenty of time for all the other maintenance jobs i have been putting off like valves etc.
It's only been a few days but i already miss riding it ,even after 14 years of ownership i still get a kick from riding the old bus.
Now i have to work out how to install the new part without dropping parts into the engine.

cheers

I haven't needed to do this job personally but apparantly the old shaft can be pushed out using the new shaft but you have to be sure to keep them snug together to avoid dropping spacers etc into the transmission.

There should be plenty of info here on this site addressing this.

Cheers,

Roden
