Trident turns over, but will not fire?

Went to start the bike this morning and it turned over fine but would not fire. I reckon there was probably no spark at all as it didn`t even sound like it was trying to fire. I keep the bike on an optimate so the battery is A1.
All the warning lights etc came on as usual.
I have fitted a pair of handlebar muffs since I last used it and it has been sat in the garage for about 2 weeks since. I may have dislodged a wire on the bars I guess.
Any ideas?

The simplest test is to hook up a strobe light and see if it flashes - if it does, you have spark. If not, you obviously don't.

If you have spark and it still doesn't run, try to drain the float bowls and let the carbs fill up with fresh fluid by setting the petcock to PRI.

My bike turns over fine though. I thought if the kill switch or side stand was `off` then it wouldn`t turn over. Am I wrong?

I've found that my kill switch wont let it turn over if set to 'off' but the side-stand switch will let it turn over when down. What about the clutch switch too?

(Btw - I think my side-stand switch may be faulty though, as it cuts the engine with it in neutral too. But 'sometimes' doesnt, so i reckon its faulty somewhere)

My '96 would spin the motor 'til the battery died with the kill switch set to kill. Not 100% sure that's normal behavior, as the sidestand and clutch switches had apparently been removed by a crazed orangutan with a sharp rock, but it surely had me stumped the first time the kill switch got clicked.

Cheers,
-Kit

I have just given myself a firm kick up the backside. In my haste this morning I must have had the sidestand down. When I got home this evening and pressed the starter as it sat in the garage on the main stand it fired ian started in a nanosecond!
