Engine Align/Mounting Questions

Hey guys,

Just finished putting in the new sprag clutch. Thanks to everyone for all their help. We started to mount the engine, but we can't get all the holes aligned.

Specifically, that inner fork that's connected to the rear swing arm. How the heck do you move it?

Unspringing the rear wheel doesn't seem to do any good. Thoughts?

Thanks in advanced, sorry if I didn't explain it well.

Justin

When buddy and I refitted the engine on my 05 S3 we had to use something similar to a spud wrench to force align the holes to get the bolts through. Took a lot of prying and nudging but after about 40 min we got that last bolt in.

You might have to loosen the swing arm thru' bolt to facilitate the process.

I struggled like mad before discovering that lifting it first into position on the front mounts, with the rear hanging a little low, then raising the rear after putting the two front mount bolts in, made it slide in place ever so smoothly.

Timely.. wondering about this exact thing too. Faffi was it just the act of raising the engine that brought the holes inline? Mine's on a rear paddock stand. Was hoping bolting the front and then raising the rear as you describe would bring the holes into alignment - it didn't seem a struggle to get the bolts out so there must be a "natural" lining up happening somewhere (I hope!)

Yes, after getting the two upper front bolts in, the rest of the holes aligned effortlessly. I wish I had known before busting my knuckles and swearing for two hours first, trying to get the lower mount aligned

@trypcil, yep that was it. Apparently we skipped that step when removing the engine.

Thanks everyone for all the help and ideas! You guys are the best as always.
