Check your alternator rubbers

Just a note of caution for people like me are new to the T3 engine although Im sure that the old hands will know all about this , Ive been reading various postings and Mots excellent advice on the alternator bolt on his website and as my Speedtriple is getting some winter pampering I decided that I would take the alternator off and check the M6 bolt is holding the drive coupling [ aka impellor ] in place given that it seems a common problem. So I did, and it wasnt, there was no end float or backlash on the splines,,,howevvvverrr,,the cush drive rubbers were in kit form!! there were bits of broken rubber all over the place, wierdly I found one piece lurking outside the alt' drive body, no idea how it could have got there but I think that I only just got to it all in time before the coupling thrashed itself to death.
Taking the alternator off isnt a difficult job, [ my bolts werent rusted] and a new set of rubbers and a new body O ring were just a few pounds from Sprint, [ $1.68 ea from Bikebandit in the USA], so I would recomend owners inspect theirs if they havent already done so.
Apologies to all if Im stating the blindingly obvious but I only decided to tackle mine as an afterthought and anyway, I dont get out much,,,Im glad that I did this job though.
