gas tank question

I've started the teardown/refurbish of my recently aquired 94' speed triple and and trying to put together a list of replacement parts/fixes-before removing the gas tank to be sent for paint i siphoned out what remained of the gasoline and a bit of crap came out with the gas.how would one go about cleaning out the gas tank and with what type of cleaner?do i remove the fuel petcock?and i think i read about people using some type of sealer to coat the inside once its clean, any help would be greatly appreciated

If your tank is rusty & you want to clean/seal the inside...remove the tap and fuel sender plus fuel cap...flush the tank with water, a hose for a few mins would do, allow to dry somewhere warm. use a cup of small nuts & bolts to shake around the inside of the tank to help remove any further rust. I used Petseal to do the Sprint but there are others out there..follow the instructions to the letter ;-)

I've just read about this stuff, which sounds promising:

Other than that, AFAICT, people tend to swear by POR-15 and at Kreem.

As Mot said, whatever you choose, it's very important to follow instructions.

Cheers,
