Trident USD' s

I have a '91 Trident that needs some pepping up.

Has anybody ever fitted any of the T300 series bikes with usd forks?

Ive seen T-Birds done but im thinking more along the lines of Tridents, Daytona 900/1200's, T300 Sprints etc.

Ive got some zx10r forks looking for a new home and although theyre a lot shorter than std I need to severely reduce my ride height anyway.

C'mon guys. Somebody must have done this at some point.
I cant believe we're letting the T500 guys have all the glory.

Also, If you've done a USD conversion on a TB/Bonny/Thruxton I'd be interested to hear from you too.
I'm hoping the headstock is going to be the same as the T300 so I can pick your brains re steering stem/triple trees/yokes.

The second thread Mot mentions is definitely worth reading if you want to pursue this. Personally, I'm running TL1000S forks on my T625 Sprint RS.

Cheers,

Other Motorcycle: I wish
USD forks on a Trident

I have looked at this myself, there is an excellent thread on here for USD fork conversion but mainly aimed at later Sprint etc.

Main problems to be encountered are;

Tank interference from position of triple clamps
Differences with steering lock stops
Marrying up your T3 type wheel/discs so that you do not have to fit a Suzuki/Kwak speedo to your bike.

I am sure it can be done but would take some work.

You could just go for it and fit a complete front end with radial brakes. Have a look at the Kwak ZRX forum for more on that.

Trident USD forks

Oh Yeah there was something else,

The USD forks are a good bit shorter than the stock ones, you could flip the eccentrics 180 degrees, then find other issues like your sidestand will need bending etc

Got the radial brakes and the rest I can work around but Id like to fine out a little bit from someone whos done a conversion on one of the steel framed bikes.
Be interesting to pick up some info as to which parts work and which dont.

The bike has been pretty much fully modded all ready so the usd front end would finish her off nicely...

Wheeltrax has seen my recent thread & pm'd me for more info.

http://www.triumphrat.net/hinckley-c...on-legend.html

However, just to respond to tripple3's post...

A lower front end is needed/desireable with these conversions when using the donor's yokes. The reason is the smaller yoke offset increases trail (slower steering), so to get that back (by steepening rake) a lower front and/or higher rear ride height is needed.

The limit of course is front ground clearance, but, well, it's doable imo (done!).

Not sure about others, ZX7Rs & (early, B model) ZX9Rs have 35mm offset - a lesser reduction than for example GSXR options with 30 or 32mm offset. Hence the Kawa options may be a little more suitable for our T3 frames, needing less 'nose down' geometry changes to compensate & keep trail in a similar range.

T5 frames have a steeper rake to begin with, so it's less an issue.

(Custom yokes can be used, but at a cost $$$..)
