Daytona to Speed Triple?

Hi,I have a 93 Daytona 900.On having to do some work to my engine I have removed all the front fairing etc and decided I like the look of it!So for a change I would like it to look like a speed triple.I have kept everything so I can change it back later when I get bored again!
My questions are:
1.Are my handlebars the same?
2.Can I change them to raise them up?Use some from another Triumph? What other changes does that entail?Speedo cable, clutch cable, brake cables etc?
3.On my Daytona I have a oil cooler in front of the exhaust down pipes. Is it ok to leave it there?Where is it on the triple?
4.How does the triple headlight mount?Do the brackets attach to the forks or the frame?
5.On the Daytona the wiring for the headlamps splits into two,one for each light, can I utalise this set up for the single headlamp or do I have to change it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi wab,

I have a Sprint Sports to which I have done the same thing!

1. Your clip-ons are the same for Speed Triple
2. A lot of people mount the bars above the triple clamp rather than below it. I think the cables will be long enough although I haven't direct experience with a Daytona. There are after-market alternatives available that offer more adjustment and a raised position.
3. It is ok to leave the oil cooler there but it is kind of ugly. Speed Triples don't run an oil cooler at all and no one has ever reported a problem arising from a lack of an oil cooler. You could remove it if you want a cleaner look and plug the ports as per S3/Sprint.
4. Speed Triple light brackets attach to the forks and require removal of the top clamp to install. If you are lucky enough to find genuine thats great or there are after-market options available.
5. You can use one of the two headlight connectors and bundle the other one up for future use. The wiring behind the fairing is all rather long but it can be tidied up and secreted away fairly easily.

You will need to do something with your gauges as the Daytona items will be exposed as normally the fairing covers them.
You might be lucky enough to find some S3 clocks but they come up rarely second hand and are expensive new.
I didn't want to lose the temp gauge so I used an instument pod from a T509 S3, the Sprint gauges fit perfectly, your Daytona clocks should be the same. I then fabbed up brackets to mount the pod to the headlight brackets. A bit fiddly but quite doable.
My headlight is a 7" item from an RD350 Yamaha, looks the goods too!
Horns were a challange but eventually I found a nice home for them fixed to the radiator mount each side.

Cheers,

Roden

Link pipe or not ?

[QUOTE=Roden;1393598]Hi wab,

I am converting a 95 daytona too a speed triple and want to remove the oil cooler but searching the different threads here I am getting to different requirements.First is this one(by Roden) just plug the holes which is the set up on my legend. The other is some sort of link pipe between the outlet and inlet which I cannot find on bike bandit? Can someone enlighten me.

Thanks

Hi beuller, when I had my brief stint with the triple look I left my oil cooler in place but it was butt ugly!I put everything back on in the end as I found it difficult to hang on at 100mph.
Anyway I think you can just plug the holes as stated before,as for the link pipe I am not sure as I never got that far.
Sorry I can't be of more use, your best bet would be to contact
MotT3 as he knows everything about the triple. He also has a very good website with loads of info.He generally hangs about in the
T3 Sport/touring section.

I think the answer may be here:

Quote:
15: OIL COOLER BYPASS PIPE
SERIAL NUMBER 28489 AND BELOW 5557113-001 $28.72
16: SUMP PLUG, M14
SERIAL NUMBER 28490 AND HIGHER - M14 5566394-001 $3.22
Off the top of my head, I think my '96 Trident was S/N 29xxx, so you'll definitely want to check the numbers on a '95.

Cheers,
-Kit

Just spoken to Triumph after sales dept - they tell me I need part no. 1210473-T0301 which is the oil cooler bypass pipe. I had 2 banjo blanks so those will be going back.
