neutral light,,,,,
I am sure that this will have been dealt with, but I cant see anything conclusive so I'd appreciate any suggestions. My speedtriple neutral light refuses to work when the engine gets warmed up, can the switch be mended or do I need to get a new one and if so, will it fail also ,being of the same design? if anyone has experience of a later design or mod to the switch and can point me in the right direction, I'd be grateful.
Cheers !

My 93 sprint has a similar issue, neutral light works fine until the engine warms up, I checked the bulb and wiring which was fine.
Leave for a day and it works again (until the engine gets warm again)
Could this be switch related or something more sinister.
Thanks in advance.

The triumph replacement is a bit more sturdy than the original. Best take out your existing switch and inspect. A standard socket worked on mine. The existing switch became intermittent, and when compared to the new one was a poor action with hardly any travel of the plunger at the tip. The new one clicks and protruded further. Someone posted about fixing the old one temporarily by removing the washer, but I would inspect first. Also the new one comes supplied with a new wire cos the switch wire connection is different.

Hi,
Here is a link to another discussion, although for a Thunderbird (the parts, etc.. are essentially the same):

Interesting comment by 'SpeedFreak' about Triumph's replacement switch though.

I have ordered a new switch and will remove the old one and will compare the old versus new and will report back my findings.

Thanks Cam, SpeedFreak and Geoff, I will wait for Cam's report back on his new switch, as at the moment Im still unbolting stuff to get to the little b**ger ! it would be great if all that one needed to do was remove a washer but that just makes me wonder what the washer was doing there in the first place !. I'm glad it worked for someone though .

Neutral light
Hi
My first Daytona 1200 ( a '95 model ) needed a full engine strip to cure the problem, done under warranty, at the time mine was the 7th engine to need this due to a manufacturing fault.

Just to add that i was told dunno if its true that when the engine gets hot the sensor shorts out & so the neutral light stops working & returns when the engine is cold again !! i have a invoice that i got with my 94 speedy that shows they replaced the gear indicator ( neutral switch ?) when they replaced the sprag under warranty so it must have involved a full engine strip (they also put a 6th gear in which was handy) hope this sheds a bit of light on the subject

Removed the switch tonight
This is in neutral
This is in gear
You can see the part which contacts and shorts out the switch to make the light come on.
Just waiting for the new switch to arrive and will picture old and new switch together, then fit the new switch and test, then report back my findings.

Great photos, Cam, its interesting that youve also got that wierd little hole that looks like a knackered thread to the left of the switch hole, I thought that someone had bodged something on mine when I first saw it, but couldnt work it out. My switch is out and seems to function ok, but I wonder if the plunger expands within the body with heat and sticks, whatever, its getting a new switch. Cam when yours arrives and assuming that its an improvement, would you mind posting the part number ?
BTW, Im impressed that Speedfreak got to his with a socket, I had to use a 14mm open ended making tiny little turns as the socket wall was too thick to fit in the space. My crap tools I guess !
