Sprag Clutch Question

Hey guys,

I'm half way through my sprag clutch replacement! Slow and steady wins the race. My dad and I have been at it for 4+ weeks now. I wanted to thank you guys for all the help with the different pictures and threads that different members have given me.

My question: Do I replace the whole sprag assembly? or continue with simply replacing the busted spring per this thread.

My problem is now, I have the sprag and gotten all the way down to the spring. I'm about to replace the spring and then I notice grooves. I apologize that it's hard to see, but if you look closely you'll see on the inner wall slight grooving (looks like discolored rings on the inner wall). They're deep enough that when you run you finger over, you can feel it slightly:

What you're looking at: That holds the inner gear.

The inner gear is this, from another thread:

I'm worried that the grooves are already too deep and at some point the inner gear that houses the 'fingers' will simply just spin.

Thoughts guys?

The housing in your photo looks to be a fairly simple component, this is just a thought and I would welcome views on this, but couldnt you get a local machine shop to make one for you and have them get it hardened?, I'm not sure how viable this is v's the cost of the Triumph part. Re the wear shown, having stripped the motor to the extent that you must have done, I'd probably change the part as a precaution , butall that being said, there are other users on here with vastly more experience than I have so lets see what they say.

Considering the work involved in order to get to the sprag (unless you have an early version with the easy access?) I'd play it safe and fit a new unit if at all in doubt.

Hrm, that might be the best advice, just get a new one.

I'll probably have to go that route as much as I don't want to spend the +$250 dollars on the stupid part just to replace a spring and some worn metal it's the safest.

Thanks all.
