S3 parts shopping
is it safe to assume that when im looking for parts on the internet, ebay, etc that all S3's are mostly the same from 94-96(accept for the 5-6speed difference)? also my bike is currently wearing exhaust cans off the trophy and they seem pretty quiet, would stock S3 cans be any louder or should i go straight to the aftermarket?

Triumph stock cans, as a rule, are very quiet. I won't say the quietest, but not far from it.
Yes, the parts should all interchange throughout the years. You could even swap trannies if that's the sort of thing you enjoy.
Cheers,

thanks kit,i have heard that i can use the 6speed out of the trophy that i have,do you know how involved it is?would the 6speed change my final gear ratio for hiway cruisin or is 6th the same as the 5th just wit the gears being closer together for better acceleration?

It's major work, and I don't think I would bother. I think top gear is the same, but maybe someone else can say for sure. I had a 6-speed, and I thought it could just as well have been a 5-speed.
Cheers,

I've got a 5 Speed S3 & a 6 speed Sprint and to start with I really liked the extra gear....I now try not to use it as much..in fact I'm trying to use more of the rev range in any given gear, I think the S3 has taught me this as I've upped the rear sprocket and only having 5 gears I tend to be carrying more revs all of the time..not a bad thing either as quite often I'm closer to peak torque and better response should I need it.
I remember reading somewhere that if you are carrying too high a gear and the back lets go the result will be a lot worse than if you where carrying more revs in a lower gear, makes sens e as the rear would have a lot more potential to spin up in the higher gear with less possibilty to get it back..as it where.
If you have the money. time, inclination and spanner skills to split the lump then go for it, you could uprate the sprag at the same time ?
6th is better for long distance work.
If not & your bike is for fun, don't worry just use more revs, bike engines are built for it ;-)
Cheers
