98 Sprint Sport maintainance woes

Killing me having my SS off the road. Was way overdue for valve check. Had 10 out of spec., but could swap 5 of them, so had 5 I needed to get. Of course, the local (45 miles away) dealer (at least they are close to the homebrew shop and awesome brewpub) didn't have the shims I need so had to order the 5 I needed for $7 apiece. Drained the coolant and cleaned everything I took off (fairings, dash panel, guages etc.). I stopped by a yamaha dealer that I frequent for dirt bike parts and they said they wouldn't even consider swapping shims. Urggg, aggravating. Hope I can get the SS back on the road next weekend. I was surprised that the valves weren't further off, considering they were ~15k miles past the inspection point. Cams look great at 29k miles. Coolant looked clean as new. Can't wait to ride again.
