Too much oil? Please see pic.

I just changed the oil and put in 4L. Is the oil supposed to be between the smaller hashes that are about 1 cm apart? Is it currently overfilled?

This is how much oil was in it before I changed it as well.

I have a really dumb question, but sometimes you just need to look at the simplest things first. Did you check the level while the bike was on its sidestand, or straight up and down?

Also when you took the old oil out did you do the filter as well....as that would help fully drain the system, if not then you would still have a filter full of old oil and filling with 4L of fresh may well take you over a bit.

By the way I can't see from your pic if it is over filled or not..oil should reach the upper of the two raised bars.

Pathos also has a point.

I changed the oil and filter today and put in about 3 1/2 litres and it is a little over the mark. Don't trust that 4 litres will be exactly right. Add a bit, check it, add a bit more and so on.

Incidentally, I used Castrol GPS 10W40 semi this time round and gee she's shifting smooth, smoother than I remember with the Motul I put in last oil change...

Cheers,

Roden

i always run the bike up on the center stand for a minute or 2, then let it sit settling for half an hour or so, then check the level again, you will find that it always drops a little

Yes the bike was on a level surface and was straight up and down.

So the oil is over both the smaller two marks on the dipstick so Im going to go ahead and say it is over filled.

The red arrow indicates the current level of the oil on the dipstick.

I also replaced the filter as well.
