Nah, its not that hard. The main things to work out are headlight, instruments and tidying up the wiring.
I used an instrument housing and facia from a T509 Speed Triple (Daytona is the same I think). The Sprint gauges fit the 509 housing and you get to keep the temp gauge. The housing and facia came to about $110 from memory which I thought was ok.
I bought a headlight from Brison's over in Rydalmere (Sydney) and a pair of universal fork brackets. The headlight is a 7" unit made for an RD Yamaha I think. I mounted the headlight and fashioned some brackets that bolt to the headlight bracket clamps and pick up the mounting points on the instrument pod. Its all hashed up out of old bits and pieces I had in the shed, not perfect but not bad either. I will improve on it one day. I would like to score a pair of bug eyes and the instrument mount that goes with them, that would be a bit different on a T3 I reckon.
Owing to the fact that the instrument housing is from a 509 S3, I was able to use the flyscreen from that model also, which keeps it all Triumph.
There was a lot of wiring that would normally be hidden inside the fairing so I bundled it up into four lots and zip tied it all neatly away. You have to be a bit creative with this part! I managed to fit the headlight relays inside the headlight shell and I retained the second headlight plug in case I ever get those bug eyes.
The Sprint doesn't have an oil cooler, so I had no tidying up to do there. I don't think I would ever install one to be honest, don't see a need.
I mounted the horns by bending a slight radius on the original bracket and bolting them to the top radiator mount where originally, there was a fairing support bracket.
I added clip-ons and CRG bar end mirrors and I have to say I really like the result.
It took six weeks for the instrument housing to arrive as there were none in Australia. Other than that, it took me a couple of weekends and a slab to complete the job. Future mods will be the bug-eyes, carbon fibre front guard and hugger, re-jet, pod filters and if I can ever score it, Speed Triple tail section, seat and cowl.
Another benefit is the amount of weight you drop off the bike. With the exhaust and fairing gone, I've probably dropped over 20kgs!
Cheers,
Roden
