Lightbulb Used rear brake rotor, Yes or No?

Gentlemen,

How do you feel about getting an used rear brake rotor? The thickness is 5.22mm, but the price is good (under $100). My current one was specified by my friendly neighbourhood mechanic as "fine for now, but needs replacing". Seems like the previous owner forgot to change his brake pads and jammed the rear brake. Honestly, I don't really use the rear as much ... brake with engine (while tapping the rear to make the brake light go on) and then front (with good rotor and new pads) but you really need it in emergencies and while riding 2-up. But then again, wouldn't the new rotor ($500) last a lifetime?

That used rotor is 80% gone, service limit is 5.0mm. My O.E. rotor lasted 50k miles, I will probably get more out of the 2nd one.

I'll check my haynes manual later today, but I think that the full thickness of the rotor is 5.0mm and the service limit is 4.5mm. If that is correct, something is wrong with your 5.22mm measurement. It should be marked on the rotor. If you measure it, make sure you measure with calipers that get the wearing surface, not a set that only measure the outside ridge left from where the brake shoes never contacted. I'll check the manual and make sure my memory is right.

Edit: Original thickness is 6mm, service limit is 5mm, as sailfish said, the rotor is 80% used up. I would get a new one.

The rotor is from a 1996 N reg model. The owner crashed the front end but the back is all good. He's got it all including the motor. Hmm maybe I should get spare calipers as well ...

by the way, rear rotor for 96 Sprint is $200 ... the Sprint Sport has more expensive rotor. I'd say it's not worth it and I'll go with a new one.
