Warranty question

According to the warranty - "The machine must have been serviced at an authorized Triumph dealer, at the intervals specified in the Triumph owner's handbook and the service log completed accordingly."

I know the language in the warranty is pretty clear, but it seems like a bit much that the warranty would be void if I do the first service or if I take it to a local shop.

I guess my question is - Am I correct in saying that any service not done by an authorized dealer renders the warranty void?

No, not in the U.S. Under our law, that part of the warranty terms does not apply unless the required service is paid for by the manufacturer (eg, is included in the price).

However, just because it doesn't have to be done by an authorized dealer doesn't mean you can disregard the service intervals. The rule of thumb is to document your own work by keeping receipts for all the supplies used in performing the work. I'd go so far as to advise printing out a copy of the checklist and ticking off each item as you do it, then sign and date it when completed.

Of course, if you do some part of your own service incorrectly and that voids the warranty in future, you don't have anyone else to lay the responsibility on.

Thank you for the quick response and for clearing that up.

My goal was not to disregard service intervals or anything like that. I just want to be able to do oil changes and other minor maintenance without messing with the warranty.

Being new to motorcycling, I would like to become more familiar with how the bike works.
