Journey from Bristol (UK) to Spain

Hi Guys,

I am due to pick up my Street triple and with only 4 days to go, I am getting really excited. My best mate has a BMW F800 a really nice bike (though I wouldn't tell him that) are in the early stages of planning a trip to the Southern Spain, no time scale or dates as yet, I was wondering if anyone has any experience or advice?

Make sure the street had its first service before you leave.

Check al nuts and bolts..especially coolant hoses.

Dont miss the highway going straight to the south from claremont ferrand.
Its a rollercoaster.

Get the ferry to Santander or Bilbao, it save's a load of arse ache and you won't have square tyres when you get there.

Apart from the actual bike checking business, I have two "hints" for long rides on Striple.

One, wear push bike riders nix under your bikie gear. They have inbuilt padding and make a long ride a bit more comfy.

Two, use ear plugs. Yes, I like the noise of the triple, but, after a while it can become pretty tiring.

Have a safe trip and have fun.

If you are using the trip to run it in you could get a bit fed up ...5000 rpm in 6th is not even 70...check out the other posts about running it in ( I really dont want to start that up again!!! )...I think just about the only concensus was that long periods of constant steady engine revs is a bad thing....on the other hand some of the roads in Spain will be fantastic for a street ....smooth warm tarmac
Like the others have posted you want to get the first 500 mile service/oil change done before you go

good luck !

700 miles and counting......

Thanks again for the useful advice guys. It has been just over 2 weeks since I picked up my bike and have had the first 500 mile service out of the way and am well on the way to clocking up 800 miles. And she is sweet, the engine has loosened up a bit and she is more willing to rev free. Still not happy to go too much over 6K but boy does she fly.

With reference to a comment that Shakey made, I do seem to have a coolant stain on the upper radiator hose, not sure if it is the hose or a bad weld on the rad!!

The hose seems to be tight and only a few drip marks which makes me think that it leaks when cool, not when its hot!!
