I am not able to remove the fuel line connectors with my fingers. I have a set of curved end needle nose pliers that I am able to use but am afraid of damaging the plastic connectors if I continue to do so.
Are there any tricks to getting these little connectors off?
If you are talking about the fuel line connector to the gas tank fuel pump, you need to slide off the safety clip and simply wiggle and pull on the connector until it goes past the fuel pump line flange. If you press on those connector 'buttons' it will be harder to get it off. You should also use one finger to hold against the fuel pump line so as not to break the plastic line while you are pulling off the connector. You can visually see the little flange on the fuel pump line when the connector is past it.
I was sliding off the safety clip and then pressing the little button which sounds like the wrong thing to do! So pressing the button holds the connector in place?
what? no. the two buttons are meant to be pressed in to disconnect the line. push the line in a little to relieve some of the pressure then press the buttons in and pull the line off. you are right though they are a pain to do with your fingers.
I used to think that too and had a helluva time getting that connector off. However after getting the connector off and looking at the the inside of the connector, the locking pins go INWARD when you press those 'buttons' (thus locking onto the fuel line flange). IMO those 'buttons' are there to allow outward movement when you pull off the connector or re-connect. I find it comes off easier by not pressing on those buttons and just wiggling and pulling.
Just don't do what I did and pull the fuel line off without disconnecting the pump electronics and turning over the engine. I got a face full of pressurized fuel!!
Oh, I always thought it was easier with some needle nose pliers with the ends bent in.
Why on earth would the buttons be there??
But do smear some grease lightly on the outside, makes it easier on your return.
