Hi, Im in sydney, australia. Just bought a new Striple, black with stock standard accessories last weekend. I went to order one to be delivered in 3 months time but the dealer had one on the floor ready to be snapped up so i bit the bullet, the only problem being i dont get my full licence for another 3 months hence why i wanted to order it for then.. SO mine is just sitting in the garage waiting to be used. :-(.. any tips on how i can pass the time??

Well, about a dozen years ago I bought my horse six months before he was old enough f/ me to get on him, so I got to do six months of ground training and just palling around w/ him every day.
So, you might try just pushing your new baby around the neighborhood a bit every day just to let her know that you love her and polish her a lot... But seriously, best of luck w/ your bike when you get your grade - you made a good choice!

In NSW, Australia we have strict licencing laws where we have to contain a restricted 250cc and selected 600cc Licence for at LEAST 12 months before we can upgrade to an unrestricted licence to ride 250cc or above.. If we are caught riding a higher capacity bike on the restricted licence, the insurance is void, there is a penaltly fine and suspension of licence.

Here in England the rule is that when you pass your test you get a 25kw/33bhp licence for two years. I can ride any bike as long as it's restricted to 33bhp. Restrictor kits are available for most bikes, the Bonneville kit costing £30.
In practice, the effect on the bonny is that it runs out of power after about 70-80mph otherwise it's unnoticeable.
If you're over 21 (and I am by quite a long way) you can do a Direct Access course (on a 500cc bike with a registered instructor in tow for a week) and get an unrestricted licence straight away - but I'm a patient man.

....and you are, presumably under 31?
Well, look on the bright side, weather for the next wee while isn't that crash hot here in Sydney.
What are you riding in the mean time?

Thats right, yes i am 25 and the S*** weather has made the wait a lot easier... thank god.. phew..... I am riding a zzr250 in the mean time so all is not soooo bad, i could be much worse and be stuck on a CB.. LOL.. As for the post about getting a bonneyville kit, i am not sure how the law here handles that sort of request, i dont see why not :-).. however i dont think the triumph warranty would be covered once that was in place..

Hi jambo58.
The "33 bhp kit" business doesn't work in NSW.
The Learner Approved Motorcycle Scheme, LAMS for short, allows learners to ride upto 660cc motorbikes, subject to a power to weight ratio limit.
Although the Striple is only 15cc too big in capacity, it has almost double the allowable power to weight ratio..... which is what makes it so much fun!
The ZZR250 is a nice bike. Keep riding it, enjoying it, and be patient, 'cos the cops get fairly annoyed about folk sneaking onto bigger bikes early.

Hi jambo58,
Well done on getting the Striple, talk about being in the right place at the right time!
It must be so tempting to jump on that baby and go round the block, I feel for ya mate.
Now, the other thing is that it is absolutely no good for the bike to be sitting there not getting ridden, no good at all. So, out of the goodness of my heart,
I will undertake to ride your bike for you.
I know what you're thinking but its ok, I really don't mind, no trouble at all.
Now, just let me know your address and we'll get set up
Congrats on your new ride,
Cheers,
Roden
