Gel seat?

I have my Street Triple on order, but haven't decided on accessories yet. I'm not sure whether the gel seat would be worth it. I'm definitely going to do some touring (thinking of going on a roadtrip around Europe in a year or two), and on my current bike I have to stop every 100km or so because my arse starts to ache too much.

So, anyone who has ridden with BOTH the stock seat and the gel seat, is it worth it?

I ordered a gel seat when I picked up my striple, finished running in with a 700 mile day to Scotland on the standard seat with no problems at all. fitted the gel seat when it arrived and it aint any better than standard one

Depends on your arse I think. I've heard people who like the stock seat, and others who hate it. My butt hurts in less than 100 miles on the stocker, and I'm picking up a gel next stop at the dealer. I'll give you my 2 cents then, fwiw.

Thanks. There's no hurry, my bike is due in October... *sigh*

The problem or "fly in the ointment", so to speak, is that Triumph's gel seats are made up of just one flat layer of gel under the vinyl upholstery, i.e. without sections or, rather, "pads" or "cushions" therein. The end result, after a few hundred miles, is that the gel eventually spreads itself AROUND your usual sitting area, leaving the latter flatter and ultimately... harder than the original seat.

No, I have NOT tried the specific Street Triple gel option. But my words above reflect actual "butt feel" experience with Triumph's extra-cost, "gel" alternatives on 3 of their recent products, the last one being a Daytona 675.

My advice would thus be: DON'T!

Gel Seat

You might want to try Spencer ...http://greatdaytoride.com/.. he will take you stock seat and insert new foam and gel and not change the look of the seat..I did my 04 Bonnie and the seat went from unusable to good ( I have a kawi with a mustang aftermarket seat... very unfair compairson to the Bonnie) but he did a great job...

Cheapskate's alternative!

For generally just riding about, I find the standard seat quite OK, but, for longish trips, I cheat and wear pushbike riders nix under my leathers.

The built-in padding adds just enough comfort to make 1000km days work.

Wrong country, but thanks for the opinions and tips. So I'll take my seat to be modded if it becomes unbearable on longer journeys. Thanks again!
