Coolant Hose Blues

Is anyone else having issues keeping the coolant hoses tight? I seem to be going over the bike monthly and having to tighten the hose clamps on the cooling system to prevent leaks. If it continues to be a bother I may have to change out all the hose clamps and use lockwire to keep things from loosening up. I'm thinking of giving the dealer a call Tuesday to see if they have any other suggestions, which if past conversations are any indication they won't.

No problem here, going on 5 months.

(Wish I could say the same for the Tiger. A little bit of cold weather, and it loves to shed coolant until I tighten everything thoroughly again.)

That's exactly what I'm fighting with my Street Triple. A cold night hits and I wind up with weeping coolant hoses. It drives me nuts at times.

Yep, me too. I thought this was a one time tighten up but when i think about it, the bike was not leaking coolant when I bought it.

Think I will mention it when the service is due.

Also, the throttle.........so on/off now as the cables have stretched. I really need to do something about this immediately because it is becoming a bit dangerous. Can anyone advise how to do this ?

You can pull back the dust cover and adjust the throttle cable tension up on the bars. Either that, or swing by your dealer and have them do it while you're talking to them about the water hose issue.

Hey Shakey which hoses are leaking? We got our bikes from the same dealer and I haven't noticed any problems yet - was this a real obvious thing for you to see?

BTW I convinced them to do my update for free but I think i'm going to head down to your guys in Lakewood - maybe they will be a bit better?

It wasn't real obvious. I caught it because of an old habit acquired when riding Harleys. I always place a paper shop towel under my bikes after parking them. That's the best way to catch early signs of oil leaks and in this case, coolant. It's the hose on the left hand side of the engine which is the return line if I'm not mistaken. You'll have to forgive my ignorance. This is my first water cooled bike in 39 years of riding. Just keep an eye on things. A coolant hose would be a terrible thing to lose.

I'm not sure who will be the better option for maintenance in the long run. Once my warranty is gone I'll probably be doing routine stuff myself and have the major work done by a wrench I met at the old Triumph shop in Olympia. He did all the work on my previous Triumph and really knows his stuff. We don't have a lot of choices in this area. Hopefully Lakewood Triumph will work out well. So far so good. Too bad I don't live in Portland. Cascade Moto Classics handles both Triumph and Moto Guzzi. I could get both my bikes serviced by one dealer.
