i broke in the bike per manufacturer and rode with a pillion for part of it. my bike is fine at 1,220 miles

So ...

Is doing a 2nd service at 1k miles a waste of money?

I did 1st one already, following manufacturer's/manual recommendation.

When a bike is new, I tend to go a little overboard on oil changes. The engine and the tranny share the same oil. Sometimes you get a lot of shiny metal bits on the top of the oil you drain out from the tranny. My Scrambler was terrible in that regard, but the Street not-so-much.

You probably don't need to do it, but it made me feel better...
