Question New Street Triple! Any Suggestions?

Got one! First posting everyone and I'm happy to say I'm the new owner of a black (is there any other color?) street triple. It was a toss up between an 07 speed for $9000 + 1000 of free gear but after sitting on the Street I fell in love. Should be here in a week. So I wanted to pick everyones noodles and see if there are any suggestions to for new owners. I'm aware of the shock recall but it doesn't effect my vin number. Any major issues concerns i should be aware of? I've done my share of research but wanted to see if anything new pops up by asking this question. Thanks to all for the great reading material, I look forward to drinking the street triple kool-aid.

"Should be here in a week" you say? Did you actually PURCHASE it (pay or finance) or lay a deposit on one? If the later... oh dear. I hope you are referring to one that is already shipped, being prepped, or in transit.
By the way, the black is beautiful! That was my first choice, but settled on white (due to availability) and now love my white one as well. Congrats on the purchase (?) and enjoy!

Hi,

only thing i'm really aware of is that on some bikes the radiatior hose can foul on the top edge of the belly pan, which could in time wear a hole.... nasty. Worth checking when the bike is hot as well as cold as the pipe expands. It was fouling on mine, undoing the clip at the radiator end of the pipe, pushing it further on and then tightening up gave the pipe enough of a gap !

Have fun !

Part of the factory-mandated, dealer pre-delivery prep work: The afore-mentioned radiator hose clamp and the throttle slack. Some dealers have seemingly overlooked these two simple steps.

AFTER taking delivery, say after 500 miles or so, you'll want to check tyre pressure (per the handbook) and re-lube the chain.

And THAT is it. Best . Jamie

I put a deposit down. He says no more then 30 days. They just got one 2 days ago (which i sat on) and then another a week ago who a friend bought so I know he's getting them in. It's my fist time with this dealer but my friends have bought numerous bikes from him and vouch for him. Time will tell.

- So check the radiator hose for rubbing on the belly pan
- Adjust throttle slack, I noticed complaints about the throttle being way to sensitive. What's the best way to tell if this is the case?

Thanks for all the suggestions!

An on-off sensation. You'd feel it right away. Jamie

Where are you located? If you are in the US, I find it hard to believe a dealer is telling you no more than 30 days...

Jamie,

Initially my throttle was super sensitive as well. Hit a bump, poor wrist control and she would react. I thought this sensitivity was normal for new bikes. I have about 320 miles on her so far and I've managed to make adjustments w/ my riding/wrist control. The initial jumpy response the throttle had has now been reduced quite a bit and/or maybe the engine has had a chance to settle/smoothen out. Now that I've dialed her in a little the throttle response seems much more manageable. Striple's power is definately explosive and energetic and I prefer her that way

Check all the hose clips for tightness as there have been several incidents.....I had a puddle under my bike. There is also some complaints about paint wearing thin so get some protection for those parts. Some have had problems with the reach to the clutch lever (I had) and have fitted an adjustable set up (Triumph can install the Daytona lever or get a set of Pazzos or similar.

The front suspension is poor on high speed bumps (thats nothing to do with travelling at high speed, hitting any bumps is regarded as high speed compression as opposed to braking which gives low speed compression), this can make the front twitchy if you ride on roads that are less than smooth.

The rear shock has a recall on it for some bikes. The OEM unit is pretty poor, although it works OK to a point, start pushing on hard and it will have you out of the seat or give a gentle wallow in bends. Its all very controllable though.

Front mudguard gives little protection to the radiator, so if you frequently ride on wet, muddy roads you might want to fit an extender.

There were a couple of reports about low oil level, but you should check it as a matter of normal maintenance, same with tyres and chain etc.

I just took delivery of mine yesterday in Indianapolis. Black. She's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen! I suggest reading through this forum and suggest to your dealer that you know about problems that others here have noticed. Ask if your bike will need the rear shock replaced...that ggot my dealers attention and let him know that I was searching for possible problems prior to delivery. They did me right. if you want to really know if you're going to get one of the few Streeties left this year ask your dealer for the VIN of the bike that is on its way to you. They know that info from the time the bike is allocated to them. If they can't tell you the VIN in short time, I'd look for another dealer. Took me just two months to get mine though. A lot of guys are waiting much longer.

Good luck! It's worth the wait.
