Rear Shock recall

My dealer has just informed me my rear shock is recalled, to be replaced.

My bike was manufactured in Nov. 07, delivered in the States on Jan 4th 08

Since my bike is fairly recent, this recall covers a lot of bikes.
My Vin # is 338850

Do they clarify why the shock is being recalled?

Thanks for the heads up -- mine is also on the recall list. The full bulletin (from the Triumph web site) is:

STREET TRIPLE REAR SUSPENSION UNIT – SAFETY RECALL.

In-service monitoring has identified a potential problem with the rear suspension unit fitted to a small number of Triumph Street Triples (vins: 316225 to 343763).

There is a very small risk that the rear suspension unit may lose its damping performance leading to poor ride quality under extreme riding conditions. Triumph takes rider safety very seriously and therefore has decided to recall and replace all affected units. Triumph is writing to all affected owners to recommend the rear suspension unit be replaced. Anyone who wishes to confirm whether their machine is affected is asked to contact their local dealer or use the VIN Enquiry option contained within the Technical section of Triumph’s website.

Although the Street Triple is safe to ride in the meantime, owners are advised to make early arrangements to have a new rear suspension unit fitted to their bike. All authorized Triumph dealers have been briefed of the recall.

If I am reading the Vin # correctly, that's 27,538 shocks to be replaced
I think that's a bunch.

Don't suppose that Triumph will give us all Daytona shockies instead?

Wonder what the availability is of the replacement units?

Nope. That's somewhere between 7 and 10 times the number of all Street Triples to be manufactured this model year. The last six digits of Triumph's VIN are a sequential serial number of all bikes off the production line, regardless of model.

That makes sense, thought I was probably missing something.
That would have been a lot of Street Triples.

They probably would have been able to sell that many if they tried.

My dealer gets the replacement units in on Monday. I assume they have known about this for some time and have made sure stock is in place to make the changes as soon as they made the bulletin.

Cheers
