Floating Tank

Has anyone here done (or seen) anyone with a Street do the "floating tank" job? This is when you take a colored (not black) gas tank and paint the lower seam frame color...giving the tank a "floating above frame" effect. Think it would look GREAT on the street with its severely exposed under-tank seam (weld). I have the Fusion White Street and am seriously considering this.

Don't have pics of it....but picture taking off tank and black (or grey) taping/ or painting the lower tank seam. The wide portion of the tank would then seem to "float" above the frame as your eyes don't look at the tank colored seam anymore. It's a painting effects trick.

An easy way to see if you'd like it is to prop the tank up and run black electric tape over the the lower seam (that Triumph tastelessly left exposed). Then drop the tank back down. See how it looks! I bet you'll like it!

Isn't that a cheaper way of achieving the same effect ? Why paint it when you can use removable tape

Yes. Taping the seam using black electic tape would be same effect (although a little shiny...perhaps a flatter black, or grey would be better). This would just be short term though, as tape will not weather well. Electric tape does not like water. It will leave gluey residue around the edges of tape when exposed to wet. Perhaps if you used a flat black VINYL tape....NOW you're talkin! That way you could remove it later. I'm not sure the seam is smooth enough though. Tape requires a smooth surface or it will expand and "bubble" where not adhesed, where as paint is not a problem (as to shape).
