So I own a 09 street triple r. I was blessed with taking ownership of a bike with rusty fork tubes.. (never again will I neglect looking at that). Anyways I bought new inner fork tubes to swap out on the stanchions. I took it to a triumph dealership and they ended up stripping out the threaded insert on the inside of the fork stanchion. Now I am without a bike and now I have to pay out of my pocket to find a fix. Only issue now is choosing the best option for the bike and also me. To start off, Triumph doesn't offer just the fork stanchion. If I go with oem new I would need to pay about 800$ just for one fork. I was researching about throwing the Daytona forks on but I'm unsure about the swap. Will street r brake calipers and everything mount up directly to the Daytona forks? Will the Daytona forks fit in the street r yokes? Thanks guys, this whole situation is quite depressing. Missed the entire riding season here and was NOT wanting to spend this much money. I will throw up a picture soon.
Yes, Daytona (non-R) forks and calipers are functionally identical to the STR forks and calipers. The only real difference is the shorter brake lines on the Daytona. No problem for you to just drop a set of Daytona forks in. I have a set on my non-R ST track bike.
Thanks for the info on that. Thats probably what ill end up doing is find a pair of daytona forks. Idk why you cant find any STR forks on ebay... Thoughts on the dealer jacking up the threads on my part? Do you think they should pay for it?
Sometimes bolts do strip....the workshop can't forsee every possible scenario.....do you bill your dentist if you chip a tooth after a checkup? The last person that worked on the bike may have butchered it and this other mob were the poor suckers that discovered it.
The fact is when a shop takes on a type of job, what the shop always have in their price is that there's always a chance of something going wrong, which is supposed to be in their calculation on profit wise. Like 1 out of 100 breaks down, if so they stand for that, if it happens.
Nice comparison. I dont bill my dentist if I ( Note the I part ) chip a tooth AFTER a checkup, I would however bill my dentist if my dentist chip my tooth during a routine checkup. There are differences between shops and shops.
Here's an alternative. Let us say that your bike behaves weirdly, you turn it in to a shop, they take it for a test drive and the behaviour makes the mechanic loose control and wreck the bike, you pay for the damages when its irreparable? And you buy a new bike, Since **** do happen.
I think I'm going to have them get the bike able to go into a truck and get it back from them.. Hopefully not going to have to pay for any work they did and just bite the bullet on new forks
Im assuming you are from Japan as it says in your profile? Is it like this it works in your country? A shop ruins your bike? Here in Sweden, a company have to pay for their mistakes.
Sorry i havent updated my profile yet. I was in japan and now i am back in the US. When I was on the phone with them I said " And you expect me to pay for the damages?", "Well yes". Like I said i think im just going to bite the bullet and get out of there without paying anything hopefully. If not, maybe ill see what triumph has to say about one of their "dealers". Im realizing i shouldve just bought the damn daytona forks from the beginning. Thanks guys.
I believe its not as simple as, it broke in their hands, they should pay for it.
If you are a customer to the specific shop for a long time, and always did all the service, tirechanges, and whatever else needed to be done to your bike, they should fix the issue.
If this is your first time there i'd say its tough luck. And as said above somewhere, maybe the forks were messed up before, and this shop happens to be the one to find out..
Jesus, Im so glad im not living over there. Everything is the customers problem. Here its the other way around. They have to prove that they didnt do anything wrong.
You said the forks were rusty. If the threads stripped when they removed the old fork leg, you can't really blame the shop for that mis-fortune. If they stripped them putting in a new fork leg, they should pay.
Also, why buy a new fork leg or get Daytona forks when you should be able to find one on EBay?
Update: Shop says my bike is not able to be put back together enough to be loaded into a truck for me to take home.. So now I'm at a point where I'm stuck in the middle. I only needed the dealer if I were to swap out the inner fork tubes. At this point of swapping in a set of Daytonas I don't even need the shop for that. But I'm at the point where I'm stuck giving them business because the bike is apart and in their shop...
