I replaced mine with the newer stock intake screen that has the wider vents. Could have sworn it felt a bit more twitchy when doing slow speed maneuvers, but have since de-cat the headers, put K&N air filter, SC projects exhaust, PCV, and dyno tuned, so not sure if that screen change actually did much.
I took the stock one off and cut bigger slots into it. I noticed a lot more induction noise after doing so. That's the free way to go about it or you could just order the updated screen from the dealership
Sorry to hear. Odd that they would send inconsistent items. Since you're planning on cutting a screen, I would suggest cutting the old one so if you're not happy with it, you can contact them back and explain so they can do an exchange for you.
Same with my '14. I'm curious too. Anyone know if the newer screen actually helps with performance? Even if only theoretically? Why do I feel so inadequate now?
Took mine completely off, rode around a bit. Traffic, side roads, highway and some twisty stuff. Roughly 70 miles,my conclusion is there is no noticeable difference.
You experiences may vary.
So I dynod removing the screen on my 11 STR. I thought it would do nothing. Begrudgingly I had to admit it did something. It gained 1hp for a few hundred rpm at the very top end. No difference below almost 11000.
Awesome? yer easily impressed! Its hardly worth the bother for such a limited gain over such a small revrange.
If I were more principled I'd put it back in. But it appears that I'm as shallow as the next man.
Locally made free flowing low pipe, k&n, matched injectors, low pipe tune loaded. Need to get a mate with an AFmeter to see if there's any area of fueling that can be improved. I'd tell you a number but I wasn't running proper correction. The screen removal was done within seconds of the with run so its clear.
The dyno i use is like the interchange before Newlands
