Hi guys, so iv got a 2014 str that was having low oil pressure (5 psi) or so at idle, i ended up taking it appart to find that it had oil starvation and had a good amount of damage done . So i consulted with a few shops and they told me it is easier at this point to get a new engine then to bother with this one (15k miles 12k service done). So that is where i am stuck now, looking for the new gen engine (13-16) with no luck, so my question is would an older model say the 2012 engine work for my 2014? Or maybe a daytona engine? Any suggestions welcomed at this point. Thanks.
There are engines out there. I'd stick with the street triple engine, otherwise you'll need a new ECU and possibly some new wiring which could be a pain. I'd imagine it would be possible to get a current gen Daytona engine in there, but you'd need the ECU.
In regards to a warranty/good will claim. Was the low oil pressure documented by your dealer? Was there excessive oil consumption or water in the oil documented? If so, you might have a better than average shot at a Triumph good will adjustment on the parts and material.
If there is a next time...... Don't ever take a possible warranty claim bike apart until its inspected by a Triumph (not Harry's bike shop) dealer first.
Well the dealer told me about the low psi when they checked it, and they also said it is out of warrenty and there is nothing they will do about that, the bike was salvaged when i had bought it.
I'd imagine even for a pre-'13 Street Triple engine you need an ECU change, as there were changes in that regard and its running a different EFI setup. Best bet would def be to stick with the '13+ variety. The current gen Daytona engine has even more changes to it, from what I understand you cannot even do the camshaft mod with the newer engines, so a complete swap might be equally impossible.
A 2012 engine should work just fine. Remember, all you need is basically a "long block". Anything electronic can be swapped from your damaged engine, including throttle bodies, ignition system, and ECU. Plus, the older engine will have the lower first gear. Good luck.
