I haven't got my 2016 street triple R yet and I have a question about the ABS system for you guys. The owners manual I read online (2013 manual?) states that the ABS is not an integrated system and both brakes work independently. Is that still the case with the new ones or does applying the rear brake lever activate the front as well?

You don't need to stay under 5k rpm. In fact, in this guy's opinion, you're better off not. I've followed his suggestions for my last 4 new vehicles - 2 bikes and 2 cars - and both have run strongly and never had an engine related problem.
The 5k limit is not the current recommendation in the manual anymore anyway, its just on the tank sticker which most dealers these days remove. Manuals says: Do not use full throttle.
• Avoid high engine speeds at all times.
• Avoid riding at one constant engine
speed, whether fast or slow, for a long
period of time.
• Avoid aggressive starts, stops, and rapid
accelerations, except in an emergency.
• Do not ride at speeds greater than 3/4 of
maximum engine speed.
Basically the best advice is to ride the bike with common sense, ie dont rev it over around 8k rpm, as this is close enough to max power and max torque anyway and otherwise shift normal as you would with any manual transmission based on engine response.
There are people who suggest the published break-in period for most bikes is more to try to give the rider time to acclimate themselves to their new bike than any real mechanical reasons. Also remember that new bikes come with new tires that might have optimum grip right off the showroom floor.
The bike specific user manual takes priority over some generic, one size fits all tank sticker....in my opinion. Plus the sticker rpm limits make no sense for a sportbike. Try to follow that and you can't even keep up with normal traffic. Plus you're lugging the engine all the time unless you're going down a hill.
Actually I've come to learn that the manual and the sticker coincide.
If you look in the manual there is a pictogram of the tank sticker when referring to rpm recommendations.
Not that I followed them.
The diagram in the manual that depicts the type of sticker is not what the sticker actually looks like. Follow the text on page 54.....it is not specific to rpm....forget the sticker.....use common sense.....dont baby it......dont thrash it for break in miles.
