Street Triple Insurance Confusion

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that the insurance companies have their heads stuffed where the sun don't shine when it comes to classifying the Street Triple? My company finally settled on $235/year after they realized they don't have it listed yet. They then proceeded to base the pricing on displacement alone rather than the type of bike and displacement. I also found out they're dropping the Daytona 675 from their insurable list as with most other 'crotch rockets' as they put it. Too great a risk for their taste. I could apply for special consideration, but it would be expensive. I told them the Street Triple was a roadster, not a crotch rocket. They seem happy with that for the time being. I may get a nasty gram from them once the Street Triple is formally added to the company's data base. Until then I'll take advantage of the middle weight non sport bike rating they apparently are willing to assign it. I called Geico for the hell of it today and while fumbling around trying to classify the bike they settled on $480 a year. I told them that was a bit on the high side for an old geezer like me and then learned a Speed Triple would run over $1100 a year! I'm tempted to take some time and see just how varied the pricing is for our bike. Will they finally classify it as a Sport Bike? Probably. If so then I'll be shopping for a new company. Insurance is one of the biggest scams going. Anyone else out there befuddled by these fools?

Not befuddled. Just perpetually wary!

Especially where a new model is concerned...

Cool

I have had my bikes insured with State Farm for over 30 years. When I bought a new Bonne in 2001 I paid about $425 for FULL coverage with $500 deductable. Almost 7 years later I was being billed the same amount.
Being over 50 and an AARP member I went on-line to AARP/Foremost and got my 2001 Bonneville and my new Street Triple insured with identical coverage for about $550 per year. The separated the Bonneville for about $175/year and the Striple for about $375/year. Still FULL coverage, $500 deductible and because they were the first to insure the Striple I get 100% of purchase price in the event of total loss for the first 2 years.
I have no claim experience with Foremost but then I've never had a claim with a motorcycle in over 40 years! I have heard many negative stories about some of the more popular insurers from repair shops, especially with motorcycles.
What the heck, it's all gambling anyway.

The only definite thing you can say about insurance is that you must always shop around. What's true for one person at one location will not be true for another, even if their bikes, ages, and driving records are the same.

So maybe there is more to my AARP renewal than that lovely magazine and all those lobbying efforts, huh?
Good idea.

Don't simply count on it being the best deal, though. Check several.

Don't worry. I'm too cheap not to, but thanks for the counsel.
I've just become so trusting of my own agent, I hadn't given it a second thought until I saw insurance feedback in this forum.
Now... I will seriously shop based on sugestions here, i.e. Progressive, AAA, AARP and wherever else I can find a free quote that doesn't clog my inbox with spam. I do understand that there are many factors influencing the rates, such as my driving history, credit, whether the bike is bought outright or financed and how well-informed the quoting agent is. At this point I'm just hoping the classification will be a bit more tame than a crotch rocket.

That's the big question right now. Will the insurance industry classify out Street Triple as a sport bike, which puts it in the company of the Daytona. That would mean a big increase in insurance rates.

How old are you if you don't mind me asking? Age plays a big part in the insurance game.
