So what's it like 2-up?

C'mon someone must have ridden one 2-up. Howzit go with a passenger?
What I need is a light, quick and nimble street machine for the 5-day-a-week dodge through big city traffic and some solo fun on the week-end. Striple sounds ideal for that. But I would also like to sit the missus on the back from time to time. Would it be like my current ride 2-up: all the torque and horsepower of a kiddies tricycle below 7000rpm before suddenly going beserk? The missus don't like that.

Only had my 10 year old son on the back for the first time last Friday and it was much better than the SV I had before because the rear seat is only slightly higher than the front and, since the guy in front sit's more upright the passenger, is able to hold on much better than on the SV.

It is very easy to ride below 6,000 (which I have to stick to in order to follow the running in guidelines). Rip open the throttle and it does accelerate harder than past bikes so you can scare the passenger if they are already a little nervous......

One important point though. If your passenger likes to hang onto the bike raher than the rider in front it'll cost you because there is no hand grip/rail on the back of the bike (that's an extra)!

Of course my son weighs about the same as a loaf of bread so not really representative of 2 adults. He loved it though!

I pick my wife up from work on it most days, riding into central London & can say that it handles very well indeed & is still nimble & agile 2 up. She finds it comfortable & has not complained!

Haven't thrashed it yet but will start to open it up now as I have just had the 500 mile service, I am sure it will go like stink!

Yes it does go like stink 0-95mph seems very rapid, and that was going to 10k revs, and there's more still to go!

If anyone has both the Street and Speed ( or has ridden both w/ pillion ), I'd be interested in the perceived difference.

Also .. could you *tour* two up, in a pinch? Or is that expecting a bit much?

It works if you follow the old 19th century adage, "a gentleman sends his luggage ahead."

I didn't get to take him on the back to the NEC, but I did take him for a 50 mile ride to the train station. He has been on many a bike, and said this one wasn't too bad comfort wise. I have no grab rail though, and am sure that would have helped!

Riding wise, its pretty much unchanged in my opinion. Pulls well, handles well, but obviously braking distances are increased, can't be as heavy on the brakes with a pillion, it doesn't like it at all...

I wouldn't hesitate in yaking a pillion again, suprisingly good!

Thanks Vega, sounds like your having fun over there (but isn't it cold and wet just now?). It's good to have a forum like this to do a bit of research and see how others are going before you buy - especially with a new model like the striple. But it seems as if all reports from the magazines and, more importantly, day-to-day riders are good, so it's off to the dealers for me after Chrissy (although by all acounts I'll probably have to wait another 6 months for delivery, especially as the bike has only just been released here in Oz).
