Function Over Beauty

This bike NEEDS a rear mudguard of some sort, am sorry to report. Took her out today (another 80 run-in miles @ exactly 0°C to a streneous YTD total of 195 or 313 kilometers) amidst dead leaves and melting snow flakes. Most of that wet road grime ended-up around the rear shock, under the seat and the license plate, and, whatever of it that was left, copiously SPRAYED all over my jacket's back.

I have just placed an emergency order for Triumph's carbon fiber mini guard Jamie

I got a rear hugger from Triumph and it does help-I was out in the rain yesterday and it kept the bits and pieces clean. It's very unobtrusive too

So unobtrusive that I can't quite detect it on your pic, Manx. And what about a pic of Manx next to HER ride? Jamie

Try this picture of my rear hugger:

I found the hugger quite funtional and certaily kept the worst of the winter crud off the pipes and rear shock.

Next thing I definately want to fit is a small extender to the front mudguard because the ra will be ruined pretty soon with the weatehr we're having in the UK at the moment and I don't want to stop riding until the summer now that I have a bike to ride.

Well, that's useful information -- thanks, Jon. Looking at the picture, I wouldn't have thought that it would have kept much off, so it's useful to read some first-hand experience.

Since my bike's going to be spending some time in the shop and parts will need to be ordered, I might add this to the list (on my dime, of course). The price certainly seems reasonable.

I must say, Jon, that's a much more appealing picture of the hugger than Triumph has on their Web site. I never needed or particularly wanted one on my Speed Triple, but I think I'll have to have one for the Street Triple.

My thoughts on the hugger was that there will probably be other aftermarket options that offer better coverage but there is plenty of room to get in and clean above the back wheel and the rear of the numberplate so main purpose of the hugger is to keep cr@p off the rear shock (which is far harder to get to). As a result, the more discrete standard hugger was fine with me!

My frustration with my old SV650 was that it was so hard to cleanaround just in front of the back wheel. I certainly think that the hugger helps and as someone else said, the price is pretty reasonable.

As soon as we get a nice sunny day I will try to get some better pictures and even some film but for now I'm restricted by the light conditions and the wet weather!
