Burning a higher than recommended octane in an engine is of no benefit and wastes perfectly good beer money. The only time I'll run a higher than recommended octane is when they oxygenate fuel during the winter months. Then it makes a difference. Until then I'll run regular if that's what the engine takes. Since both my TBA and Guzzi require mid-grade it's a good thing the Trip will drink regular.

You should speak to my old man then...... filled up his new cape nord with diesel....

Thankfully he realised before turning the machine over, and it was right beside the dealers warehouse.

Could not stop laughing when he told me

No new break-throughs in physics in the last few weeks.

As I previously indicated I might, I did switch to 87 octane about a hundred miles ago, because that was all that was available in the backwoods of western Missouri when I stopped there. Performance has been fine. Ongoing tests have not been possible the past several days, though, because of weather like this:

Funny...I have been thinking about you out there in the midwest with the nasty ice storm moving through your area John. Your pic tells the story - yuk.
Come on spring!

Actually, I've been too chicken to venture south and east of here, where it's actually worse. According to some forecast models, though, we may get another chance to catch up with them tomorrow evening; but fortunately, other models are starting to disagree.

Spring can't arrive soon enough for me! Gotta test ride some more with 87 octane in warmer weather, so I can keep everyone informed of the results. It's my civic duty!

On a slightly different issue, just wondering what the average people are getting to a tankful.... and if it varies depending on the octane grade
