Got new STriple last night

Got tired of waiting for my order to arrive. One of my co-workers mentioned that he had heard of a STriple on a showroom floor. So I called the dealer, Ace in Concord (CA), and sure enough, they had a white one. I was planning on going out to at least sit on one and then it occurred to me, now that I had the bit in my teeth, to call a few more dealers and voila, Munroe, in SF had a Roulette Green on the floor. So over I went last night and now it's in my garage! The ride home was great but the break-in period will test my patience, oh well. Will take it to work this morning and show it off to those like minded guys in the shop, they'll probably be Roulette Green with envy <g>. Here's a pix of it sharing the garage with my S3 Elan, a 26R out of the field of view.

The only complaint so far is the lack of a rudimentary toolkit, yeah, I know about the tank prop and the allen wrench, I want a kit that can take a wheel off if needed. Still waiting for a post that offers a real solution. Also wondering what is the lowest octane gas that it will be happy with?

Congratulation on new bike. Roulete green - my favourite.
And what is the car behind Jaguar E-type?

Dealers in the Bay area have them sitting on the showroom floor and my dealer can't even get a demo. Bummer.

Congratulations, jabingb!

As for octane, the first thing one must take into account is where you are. Here in the States, we use the (R+M)/2 rating method, which yields lower numbers for the same octane than in the UK and EU.

The U.S. manual states 87 octane or higher for the Street Triple.

That's right, 87. It's the lowest octane requirement of any Triumph, so far as I can tell, and is largely the result of the milder cam and less aggressive ignition advance. That will be a pleasant bit of relief at the pump.

The Daytona requires 89 or better (95 by the UK method), which is also listed in the same manual. It's now one new book for both models.

Thumbs down

Diego,

You are right about 87 octane, I saw 89 for Daytona not Street.
My dealer told me to use 91

The car in the foreground is a Lotus Elan S3 DHC with a Lenham hardtop. Finally I've got an all Brit garage, who would have thunk it? Now I need some Whitworth wrenches <g>.

Sweet, my Trip will be parked next to our Jaguar XJ-SC V12. Maybe some of the Triumph's fuel economy will rub off on it. ;-)

Heads Up

The later octane posts from this thread now have a home of their own, aptly titled "The Octane Thread," so we don't end up hijacking this one.
