Street Greed
What about each of us ordering 10 Street's each. NOW. Firm, with a deposit as needed. In effect, "cornering" (commodity trading parlance) our dealers' respective Spring allotments. And making a small fortune on the eventual "grey market distribution" of same.
Am no car buff, but I am reading about folks making lots of bucks doing nothing but that: Aston-Martin V8 Vantage coupes and convertibles (both sold-out until Nov. '08), the forthcoming V12 DBS9/Vanquish replacement (not available yet other than in show and press version, but 1st year production already sold-out, reportedly !!!), Corvette Z06 (extremely hard to get in Western Europe, for reasons which BTW totally escape me) and almost all current Ferrari models.
Official dealers bitching, of course (showroom investment, system connectivities, service shop tooling, high-tech training of mechanics, warranty exposure, salesmen with Saville Row suits and multi-lingual skills, trade-ins, local promotional "events" to arrange and fund , etc.)
But it seems that many customers out there want it "now", don't mind paying a stiff premium to get it " now" and... don't give a dam about the official dealer's "services"
Go figure. Jamie

I must admit I thought like that myself, my bike was at dealers for 2 days and nobody phoned to tell me it was there, i changed over my insurance and e-mailed them a cover note on fri morning so they could tax it, spoke to them to find they told me the wrong e-mail address twice! and still don't have cover note!. Then they forgot to order all the acssories! I've got the flyscreen visor but no screen to attach it to, got to wait 2 weeks for that, they ordered the seat cowl and bellypan yesterday and they should be with them in 24 hrs, believe it when I see it. I'm now fed up and pissed off, doesn't look like I'll have it for the weekend now.
Anyone want to jump the que and get a street triple now, 0 miles and nearly one owner make me an offer!!!!!!
I think I should have got a new GSXR instead, it would have been run in by now and serviced all ready to play, AND it wouldn't have drunk half it's oil!.
OK Rant over..... For now!

"AND it wouldn't have drunk half it's oil!." Does the Street have a problem with oil consumption ?

It's Laguna motorcycles in Maidstone, I ve bought bikes from them before and they have been fine, but customer service is something they seem to have forgoten this time! As for the oil, Triumph had several 675 Daytona's go bang because they had drank all there oil by the time the bike had it's first service. In bike magazine this month their 1050 tiger has gone bang due to surprise surprise a lack of oil!!!. It would seem that Triumph's like to drink a bit. My last 2 bikes were GSXR's and both never used a drop of oil no matter how hard you thrashed them!.
Mrrad where are you in Kent? If I ever get my hands on my street triple we could meet up for a ride.

Im in Beckenham , more London really but Kent sounds better ..I read about the 675's but also thought someone mentioned that the engine on the street was changed abit , but I guess we wont really know until more people have them if oil is a problem, yea we can go for a ride if I ever get around to actually buying one instead of looking at pictures ... My nearest dealer is Carl Rosner in Croydon , they are supposed to be good........ Lenny

Oil Comsumption Worries
Moving to the defence bench now: My Daytona 675 consumed virtully NO oil during the 4'000 miles I kept it. But I was extremely meticulous with the run-in process: only very gradually letting rpm's go up without hastily asking for more, no initial ride shorter than 50 miles, plenty of time to let it cool down between rides, and, even more importanty, NO highway miles in top gear and with a steady throttle opening.
It amazes me that lots of folks think that by doing 500 miles of highway crusing over the first week-end of ownership, they'll be done with the process. NO. They'll just have lodged mileage.

> In bike magazine this month their 1050 tiger has gone bang due to surprise surprise a lack of oil!!!
Surprise indeed, doggy. I have appreciable experience with the 1050 engine, and have never known one that consumed a drop. None of the four other Hinckley Triumphs I've had ever did, either. So I'm not going to buy any hasty generalization about Triumphs liking to drink.
The 675 Daytona is the first modern Triumph with any sort of reputation for truly needing to check the oil level at the specified intervals. Whether that carries over into the Street or not remains to be seen, but I'm darned sure going to check it on schedule! If it blows up as a result of my not looking, I have no one else to blame.
Jamie has hit the target with his advice in Old Timer Mode. I intend to follow it myself.
Who cares if you can thrash Brand A from day one without oil consumption problems? If Brand B is the one you actually bought, and they tell you to run in the engine within certain reasonable limits... then just maybe there's a good reason they say to do that. We'll see.

I've picked mine up tonight and i'm in love again!, it really is a fantastic bike, so easy to use and that engine is going to be a real peach!. Sticking to 5k for the running in is going to be impossible it's about 61mph in top!. Taken mine to 6k on the way home as it was 15 miles of dual carriage and no other route home. total miles so far 21!.
