According to Motorcycle Daily, the Street Triple 800 is a very likely thing.
"...offering the Street Triple with an 800cc engine. This isn’t just a rumor, it has been confirmed by someone who should know what is cooking at the British marque."
How true those words are, one cannot be sure. I, for one would welcome an 800cc Striple with open arms.
Not much there is right, but it does seem to make sense.
With the euro4 standards I'd imagine with out a bump up in displacement the 675 would suffer hp/tq power loses.
Similar to the new water cooled twins, with the bump in cc but not much power wise.
What I'd be curious to find out is how and what the engineers are doing to meet these standards?..
Might there be some easily tapped power? ie. Fuel modules, intake and exhaust mods?
I don't know. Maybe.
All things considered - including what must be at least a slight weight increase - I sincerely doubt that with equally capable riders the new 800 will be that much faster than the 675, if it's even faster at all. So, hopefully they are spending their resources making it feel as right as the 675 does.
I couldn't agree more! But, don't get me wrong - when/if the 800 comes out, I plan on test riding one and keeping my fingers crossed that Triumph didn't hit another 'homerun'. Otherwise, I'll have to consider getting another bike...>
My understanding is that the Euro 4 emissions requirements are driving this train. In order for them to continue to be able to make and sell the bike, it has to comply with the quickly approaching new regulations, and those regulations are power killers. If they kept the displacement the same, they would lose power relative to the current bikes, so...more displacement it has to be. However, if you've read some of the articles, you will know the hp increase is pretty marginal - between about 5 and 20 hp. Allowing for what almost undoubtedly will be a slightly heavier lump, and power to weight differences between the 675s and 800s could very well close to being negligible.
Now, Triumph could work the same magic they did with the current twins and tune in a buttload of torque, but unfortunately torque numbers don't get people into dealerships. Have you ever heard anyone, except for people driving tractors, argue or boast about how much torque they have? Most people don't realize that torque is what is mostly responsible for that happy feeling they get when they twist the go grip, but we've all been conditioned to think horses are the true holy grail, so we confine our thinking, arguments, and disgruntled posts to that metric.

I disagree. If I wanted torque I'd buy a Speed Triple or one of the lighter power nakeds. One reason smaller displacements are popular even for people that have ridden liter bikes is especially the fact that power develops through revs, which some people simply enjoy.
It's the reason why some people disliked the MT-09/FZ-09 compared to the street, it has more torque na more power, but the revs are overall lower making it feel less exciting.
Though of course that is a matter of taste. Some people prefer torque-heavy engines. But changing the street over into such a bike would be making an entirely different bike out of it.
675cc seems to be a sweet spot for a three cylinder, I've ridden the 800 tigers and the engine seems less exciting then the street.
Maybe they could increase the bore and decrease the stroke to make the 800 motor rev better? Either that or turbo the 675 motor :grin2:.

I rode a tiger 800 before buying my street triple, l found it boring, soulless. The salesman asked me how I liked it fully expecting me to rave about it, and I was like "meh" it's a minivan on 2 wheels. (This coming from someone who has a minivan)
It's not going the be the exact same engine from Tiger 800. 675 as is makes more hp than 800 Tiger engine. They are going after Yamaha and MV 800s. Hope they are not going to intentionally neuter ST to keep it under the wings of the dinosaur known as Speed Triple.
Rameses I think you hit the nail on the head. It was set in stone once they released the speedy with a meager <140hp with this latest refresh. Not sure why anyone would buy one if they could have a street 800 @ 110-125hp.
